beaches
Struisbaai boasts a 14-kilometre stretch of pristine white sand beach, perfect for swimming, sunbathing and beach games. It's also a great spot for shore angling and whale watching. The main beach is but a 3 minute drive from Cape Creek Retreat. Closer even, is a stretch of private beach known as Langezandt beach. It's an easy 5 minute stroll through the estate and over a wooden walkway. "Die Plaat" is another beach area to visit for a nice stretch of flat beach. To get there, from Cape Creek Retreat, take the R319 in the direction of Bredasdorp. You'll see Earth Restaurant on your left after about 4 minutes of driving. Take a right turn just after Earth Restaurant and continue driving for another 4 minutes until you reach the beach area.​
​Struisbaai has beautiful waters and a reliable surf that makes it popular among surfers. The best time of year for surfing at Struisbaai is during the winter months, when the waves are most consistent. Die Plaat at Struisbaai offers excellent kite surfing conditions during South-West winds. To get to the kite surfing launch area from Cape Creek Retreat, take a short drive on Main Road and turn left at the sign marked “Strand/Beach”, located on your left. There is a nice grassy area here at the Struisbaai Promenade - great for rigging with plenty of parking.

SCUBA DIVING
For ocean thrills and outdoor adventures, Southern Tip Extreme Activity Centre in Struisbaai offers scuba diving, snorkeling, spearfishing, boat trips, and e-bike rentals for an unforgettable experience.

SIGHTSEEING
AFRICAN PENGUIN AND SEABIRD SANCTUARY
This Gansbaai-based sanctuary is a marine bird rehabilitation center. Daily feeding is at 3pm, and you'll be able to watch the adorable penguins eat if you time your visit right.
L'AGULHAS LIGHTHOUSE
The lighthouse was declared a National Monument in 1973 thanks to its momentous role in sea travel. For magnificent views of the ocean and coastline, climb the three sets of stairs to the lookout at the top.

WAENHUISKRANS CAVE
Waenhuiskrans Cave is a natural wonder not to be missed. Naturally carved by the relentless ocean and tides, the enormous cave holds a sense of wonder and wisdom. The views out to sea from within the cave are breathtaking.

PARKS AND NATURE
Agulhas National Park
Spot the illusive African Black Oystercatcher or Damara Tern while enjoying one of the walking or hiking trails in the reserve. Zebras, Baboons, various reptiles and Bontebok can be seen grazing freely throughout the unique lowland fynbos.
NUWEJAARS WETLANDS
Home to one of the largest Rau Quagga populations in the country, Nuwejaars Wetlands offer a guided game drive with plenty to see: Buffalo, Hippo, Hartebeest, Cape Grysbok, Duiker, Steenbok, Rhebok, Bontebok and Eland, in addition to the wetland landscape itself.
DE HOOP NATURE RESERVE
The park is known for its range of birds - more than 260 bird species. There are a variety of guided tours available, including walking tours, cycling tours, birdwatching, marine walks, game drives, and a meeting with endangered Cape Vultures on a viewing platform.

HIKING TRAILS
Spookdraai (Ghost)
​A 10minute drive from Cape Creek Cottage, this trail winds through L’Agulhas, combining coastal views, hills, and ghostly folklore. Markers guide the way; pick up a map for details on landmarks and spooky stories.
GROOTBERG
Near Napier, about 50 minutes away, this 8 km circular hike takes 2.5–3.5 hours. Highlights include Sopieshoogte boulder and panoramic views over the countryside. Moderate difficulty.
TWO OCEANS
A 10.5 km coastal loop in Agulhas National Park (shorter 4.5 km and 3 km options available). Walk through fynbos and along pristine beaches, with stunning ocean views and opportunities to spot wildlife.
PERLEMOEN
​Near Pearly Bay, this scenic coastal and dune trail is perfect for a quiet beach and fynbos hike, about 55 minutes’ drive from Cape Creek Cottage.
RASPERPUNT
​Starting at the Meisho Maru Shipwreck, this 5.5 km trail features sand, stones, and steep sections. Enjoy coastal scenery, fynbos, and historic shipwreck sights.
STERNA
A 7km trail near Arniston, winding through riverine vegetation, dunes, and the coast. Ideal for birdwatching and peaceful nature walks, 25 minutes from Cape Creek Cottage.

WINE FARMS
BLACK OYSTERCATCHER
Here you'll find a range of wine tasting experiences, including pairings with chocolate, cheese, jams or bread. Black Oystercatcher also serves craft beers, produced by Fraser's Folly.
ZOETENDAL VINEYARDS
Nestled in the Elim region on the banks of the Nuwejaars River, the farm is known for its Shiraz. For activities, visitors can enquire about their hiking and biking trails, birdwatching and picnics on the river bank.
LOMOND WINE ESTATE
Their tasting room overlooks the Lomond Dam and the farm, offering breathtaking views of the vineyards and surrounding valley. Sample the wines in their truly unique Rockpool range and pair it with an antipasto platter.

ART AND HISTORY
THAPELO ARTS
Interested in buying the most affordable house ever? Thapelo handcrafts mini fishermen’s cottages. You'll find him and his display of houses at Hotagterklip, on Struisbaai's main road as you enter the town.
LIGHTHOUSE MUSEUM
L'Agulhas houses the second oldest working lighthouse in South Africa. The L’Agulhas Lighthouse is open to visitors who wish to browse through the museum and learn more about the many ships met their doom along the Cape Agulhas coastline.
SOUTHERN WRIGHT ART
The gallery is located on the Main Road in L’Agulhas and features local artwork. Many of the pieces hero local landmarks such as the lighthouse, shipwrecks, fishermen’s boats and the stunning beach.
THE SHIPWRECK MUSEUM
Discover a gloomy, yet romantic, history of the 150 ships that came to their doom along the rocky reefs of the Agulhas coastline. The Bredasdorp Shipwreck Museum tells countless stories through exhibits including real ship anchors and everything from household items to farming equipment from earlier periods.
KAPULA CANDLES
Visit Kapula Candles in Bredasdorp to browse their range of hand-made ceramics and candles, displayed in their showroom. Their candles are unique, vibrant, and hand-painted with great attention to detail.
MEISHO MARU SHIPWRECK
Various shipwrecks, including the Zoetendal, Birkenhead, and Armiston can be found along the Agulhas coast. The wreck of the Meisho Maru number 38 is a 20 minute walk or a 3 minute drive from the Southernmost Point of Africa monument.

FISH AND MORE
A one-stop fish & chips shop offering a superb range of fresh line fish, snoek, deep-fried hake and calamari for takeaway or sit-down.
L’Agulhas Seafoods
Another top spot to grab quality fish, chips and calamari is at L'Agulhas Seafoods. Some say it’s the best in the area.
The Bistro
Located at Arniston Spa, this restaurant specialises in top-quality seafood and traditional South African dishes with a modern twist. Diners can enjoy stunning coastal views from their open-air deck.
Catch cook
Overlooking the ocean at the Struisbaai Harbour, is one of the best places to enjoy some locally caught seafood, sushi and beer-on-tap. In busy season, this beach-style restaurant offers a vibrant atmosphere of live entertainment.
Old Cape
This family-friendly restaurant serves everything from hearty bacon and eggs to gourmet burgers and Sunday buffets. They also have big-screen TVs for sports viewing.

A stylish café overlooking the Bredasdorp Lifestyle Centre's garden courtyard, where diners can enjoy a range of light meals and freshly baked cakes.
Moerse FarmstalL
Grab fresh pies, home-made bread and great coffee in Napier. Also featuring a nursery and shop, their restaurant serves pizza, vetkoek and tasty South African meals.
Pret at 55 Knots
Pret is an Italian restaurant that combines the unique southernmost coastal setting with unfussy style, classic food and attentive service. Pick a seat on the balcony on sunny days to soak up the views.
Gavin's Trattoria
Gavin's is a family-run Italian restaurant in L'Agulhas known for its authentic wood-fired pizzas, fresh seafood and warm hospitality.
Bredasdorp Square
Bredasdorp Square serves café-style dishes in a French-style dining room with a lovely fireplace. They have a sunny veranda for garden and town views, plus a shaded courtyard area by a lily pond.

Struisbaai is known for its pretty fishing harbour, historical thatched cottages, and long pristine beach that's perfect for swimming and kite surfing. The town is a popular beach holiday destination featuring attractions like Parrie the friendly stingray who visits the harbour, plus opportunities for whale watching, rock pooling and enjoying fresh fish.
ELIM
(35 minutes' drive)
Elim is a national heritage site, featuring a Moravian church with the country's oldest working clock and South Africa's largest wooden waterwheel. The village is surrounded by the Nuwejaars Wetlands with indigenous wildlife and nearby wine farms, plus offers delicious milktart at the Old Mill Tearoom.
L'AGULHAS
(10 minutes' drive)
The most southern coastal village in South Africa is home to the Southernmost Tip of Africa where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. A short drive from Cape Creek Retreat, this tranquil town offers prime fishing, the L'Agulhas Lighthouse, hiking trails through limestone fynbos and excellent birdwatching in Agulhas National Park.
NAPIER
(35 minutes' drive)
About half an hour from Struisbaai lies a charming small town full of antique stores, gift shops and farm stalls. Napier is known for its peacefulness, wholesome meals served at farm stalls, local brewery, renowned Pascal's restaurant and stunning yellow canola fields that bloom from late July to early September.
BREDASDORP
(20 minutes' drive)
Bredasdorp is the bustling economic hub of the Cape Agulhas region, featuring the Shipwreck Museum, numerous art galleries, craft shops and restaurants. Visitors can explore the nearby Heuningberg Nature Reserve with its rare Bredasdorp Lily, enjoy birdwatching, and browse handmade items at Kapula Candles.
ARNISTON
(35 minutes' drive)
Arniston is a historic fishing village famous for the Waenhuiskrans Cave (accessible only at low tide) and the heritage site of Kassiesbaai with its quaint fishermen's cottages. The town offers stunning beaches and is flanked by two nature reserves providing great birdwatching spots.
